Giants and Redskins, NFC East’s bottom-most teams, teams that have one combined win in half a dozen games this season, are scheduled to face off at the MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
Let’s talk about the Redskins first. The capital city side are winless after the first three games and head coach Jay Gruden must now be getting a little uncomfortable with the 0-3 start.
Two of those three losses, the last two actually, have both been at home and both chastening in nature.
Last week’s 31-15 defeat to the Bears, at least, can be blamed on Case Keenum. The Washington quarterback was jittery in the first two games too but the wheels came off completely against Chicago.
Devoid of good ball security, Keenum had five turnovers, which permitted the Bears to amass a hefty lead early in the game. The hosts never recovered.
It is then understandable that the Redskins faithful have been clamoring for a change. Problem is that Colt McCoy is not quite match-fit, while Gruden probably doesn’t think that rookie Dwayne Haskins is ready yet.
As a result, there is a good chance that Washington sticks with Keenum, at least for another week, and especially against the Giants who are truly woeful against the pass.
Perhaps, Gruden needs to follow his opposite number Pat Shurmur’s lead. The Giants head coach replaced long-time signal caller Eli Manning with rookie Daniel Jones last week, and the risk paid instant dividends.
The 22-year-old completed 23 of his 36 passes for 336 yards and two touchdowns, and famously helped the Giants turn an 18-point deficit into an eventual 32-31 win.
One aspect that slightly brought down the mood was running back Saquon Barkley’s ankle injury. With him out for at least a couple of weeks, Wayne Gallman will have to carry the rushing load.
Redskins vs Giants Betting Predictions
Redskins have a QB problem, of that there is no doubt. But the Giants have an even bigger problem: their entire defense. The New Yorkers truly have an awful defense that has been breached at will by every offense it has come up against so far this season.
If the Washington QB, whoever it is, can hit the receivers frequently, the Giants defense should cave.
It won’t be comfortable but the Redskins get their first win here. Back Washington @ +150 via PlaySugarHouse.
